Marriage Proposal
I'm back in Naija sometime in April.
I want to ask my best friend in the whole wide world if she would like to spend the rest of her life with me as soon as I return.
But, I'm getting the jitters and I don't know where to start from.
I need HELP!
I have a gut feeling that she'd say yes. (Don't ask how I know) I just know.
Thats not the problem.
Left to me, I'd just get her to come over to my place and ask her to marry me.
I really wish I could do just that. (wishful thinking)
These are my problems.
I'm nervous, I'm nervous, I'm nervous.
How can I propose romantically in the city of Lagos?
I know the story would live with her for a lifetime and all her friends would get to hear about it, so, it has to be worthwhile. For her. For me? Zit.
I do not know what type of ring she likes nor her ring size.
How would I?!
I hear one can get good diamonds in South Africa. Not sure about that.
A friend of mine pointed me to a website http://www.bluenile.com/ for rings. Nice site.
An excerpt from their 'How Much Should I Spend' section, ''This is an emotional event, and a purchase that will last a lifetime. The two-months salary convention is a common starting point, but we believe that regardless of the amount you budget, your most important considerations should be quality and value."
Are they kidding me??!! Two months salary?! Starting point!!!
Maybe I should just take her to watch Blood Diamonds again and fill her ipod with Kanye's ''Diamonds are forevever.....good morning, this ain't Vietnam still, people lose hands, legs, arms for real.........''
Maybe, just maybe, she'd be put off diamonds :P
Anyways, I have about two months to think about the answers to this.
Something will come up. I hope.
Otherwise, I'd just do it the good old traditional way.... ask my parents to ask her parents for her hand in marriage!

diamonds are a girls best friends...basically, best friends are like friends for ever, nothing, no blood, no storm...nothing can keep em apart, they may fight and get pissed at self but they always get back together...so not a wise move.
and i think its romantically cool that u thinking up something special, man i have all this ideas i'd use if i were a guy, i mean it'll drive girls crazy...i'd love to share em with u, but i keep thinking, maybe someday i might be giving a one week excursion as a guy and i wouldnt want to be usin ideas that'd be seen as second hand. sorry....maybe i just might share. we'll talk budget here tho....

Hehehe, please dont go the last route. You need to work with her friends/siblings. I have a girlfriend who has shown me the kind she wants. So, you cld get her friends to help get her ring size and the kind she'ld like.
In Lagos, i think that you can make a romantic proposal happen. It can just be you setting up a place, her fave songs, slideshow with your pics or going to one of the new restaurants and all that. Im sure you can make it work. Wish you all the best!

It'll take more than the Blood diamond and Kanye to put a lady off diamonds, lol!

Awwwwwwwwww thats so sweet (said in a shouty voice)...Thats really great...just take her to a nice restaurant, tell her its a friends party and have someone on hand to capture the moment on camera....bring the ring in a plate that is supposed to be something she ordered...oh my gosh...I think I just spilled my dream here....
General recurring theme - Don't mess with the bling!
What of me? Who buys one for me?
@SF: Nice-daughter to his mother bla, bla, bla. I should have a chat with him. He's still your husband, right?
@Ms E: Me ke? Romantic? You know what they say about 'okoro' guys? 'Cam here baby, let me tantalise you'. Thanks for the simple touch advice. Is that what you secretly want?
@FQ: We really should talk. Don't worry about it being second hand, I'd do a hybrid of sorts. Budget? For a proposal? Heck, bring it on!
@Omosewa: Nice suggestion. Will look into that. Thanks for the best wishes.
@Bumight: Let's talk about this. What's the minimum wage like in yankee? Paypal?
@AB: 'THANK YOU, AFRO BABE!'(Shouting) for spilling your dreams. Nice and romantic too.
P.S. How come no one's talking about the 'twice my salary' measurement? :P

awwwwwww. how sweet! If u know she will say yes, why all the nervousness?
anywho, the 2 months thing is STARTING o! it's really like 3 months. but am sure u have it covered.
"it's the thots that count" wldnt work in this situation. friends and family will analyze every angle of ur ring. so make sure u come correct and make her proud.
u have been saving right? huh? NO. Wat! what do u mean, no??!
ok, lemme stop. lol.
Good luck tho!

Ol' boy, good luck sha! My suggestion? Get a house, (a friend's, your parent's, yours) and invite her in to a room filled with candles, rose petals and her/your favorite song (or do this by the pool). sit her on a stool and present her with her favorite desert or drink. When she is done, ask her the question (not bluntly, say something sweet and meaningful first). Once she says yes (and we all know she will), present her with her engagement ring and invite the rest of your family and friends who have been waiting quietly for her response. Then, you can turn your engagement into a serious party that she and all her friends will never forget. All the guys will be jealous and hate on you for setting the standard so high.
Need more ideas or info, simply send me a message and as for the ring, what is the maximum amount you want to spend? If you need help, I can steer you in the direction of some very reasonable sites that provide incredible jewelry (I have used them time and time again) but are not as popular as bluenile.com.
Best of luck, again. She is a lucky girl.

lol u r such a clown... r u serious about telling ur parents to ask her fols..lol..u r a clown men!!! well i think u can get nice diamonds from south africa n maybe a nice white gold set from dubai..also most times u cant tell a humans bodily features by the size of d clothes they wear so u can stylishly ask her wat size of clothes she wears...also to da hard part, how to as her...i want to assume u guys r in a relationship already, before u go home..try as much as possible to always remind her how much u love her n how much she completes u n shit so when u finally propose it wont come as a shocker...well wen it comes to venue, there is a really nice chinese restaurant in naija(i can get da addy for u),high class n coded whr u can take her for a nice well planned dinner (with the restaurant pple off course) and then when she agrees (hope she does)...giv her sumthin she has always wanted (maybe a car or sumthin towards da marriage)...lol asides that cant think of anything else in nigeria u can do or yeh take her to a club and make sure al her frends are there(not a razz one tho)...pause d dj (with enuff money tho) and then one of here frends or urs (pre-planned) takes her to da stage n then u propse n when she agrees get like 10 pple to pop moet...lol got other ideas but i am taking up too much space here...hola at me if u need some more! wish u al da best
lol. u no wan spend 2 months of ur salary!!!! my dear, how on earth r u 2 prove she means d world 2 u!!!! no try dat blood diamond thing o. & did u say do d traditional thing, whose tradition???? abeg, just say it joo. & don't overdo it, dis way she'd b too embarrassed recounting to her girlfriends later
ms emmotions is so right! bobos no dey propose dez days o. they assume it's already been agreed upon, so why bother with all d show!!! Hmm. Me i want it all o, d entire works. On bended knees, great diamounds/or at least something that shines. this my young man that has already started planning marriage life without officially 'asking' me dey joke o. wen d time come, i go tell am 2 rewind

Take her to the top of carter bridge or third mainland....u ghould get a nice view...(should be equivalent of the Eiffel tower...
Ok...that was a bit over the top, but I'm not very familiar with the hot zones in lag now but something unique will go a long way...doesnt have to be extravagant!
As for diamonds...I'm not a fan but it seems like the majority do, so u might as well carry on with saving that salary...no pro evo 4u for while!

Seriously, its not how large the ice, its the emotions that come with it. My boyfriend when he proposed asked if I would let him be a son to my parents and a big bro to my brothers; and if I would be a daughter to his mom and a sister to his siblings... It was the most romantic EVER! Even my friends thot so.
Well, I wish you the best.
